Modern Foreign Languages at Singleton Church of England School

 

At Singleton C of E School, we use Kapow Primary’s ‘French’ scheme of work to make learning languages enjoyable and stimulating. Our French curriculum aims to develop children’s interest and confidence in learning other languages, fostering curiosity and cultural awareness.

Key Objectives:

  • Interest in Languages: Encourage a love for learning languages.
  • Understanding Structure: Teach that languages have different structures.
  • Cultural Awareness: Promote understanding of cultural differences.
  • Communication Skills: Enhance speaking and listening skills.

  • Confidence: Build confidence in using French for practical purposes.
  • Foundation for Future Learning: Lay the groundwork for learning additional languages and understanding English better.

National Curriculum Aims:

  • Comprehension: Understand and respond to spoken and written language.
  • Fluency: Speak with confidence and improve pronunciation.
  • Writing Skills: Write for various purposes using learned grammatical structures.
  • Appreciation: Develop an appreciation for a range of writings in the language studied.

Our vision is to provide children with opportunities to live life to the full, developing a growth mindset and embodying values such as love, trust, wisdom, and respect. Through our French curriculum, we aim to shape exemplary role models in our community and the wider world.

Key Assessment Opportunities

We use ‘Key Assessment Opportunities’ to  look at pupils’ work, over time and at the outcomes. These support with assessment judgments,  identifying pupil progress against the key skills and knowledge.
