Geography at Singleton Church of England School
At Singleton Church of England School, we believe in providing every child with opportunities to develop socially, emotionally, academically, and physically to achieve the highest possible standards. Our mission, “Passion for learning, Passion for life,” reflects our commitment to inspiring greatness, ambition, and achievement in all our students.
Our Geography Curriculum:
- Foundation Stage (EYFS):Children develop an increased knowledge and sense of the physical world, their community, and the wider world. They learn to respect and celebrate similarities and differences, including religious and cultural diversity.
- Years 1-6:We use the Rising Stars Geography scheme to support teacher workload and work-life balance. This comprehensive curriculum is ambitious and designed for all pupils, covering key aspects of the National Curriculum with 18 half-termly units. It aligns with the Programme of Study for Geography (2014) and the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (2019).
Key Features:
- Engaging Lessons:Our geography lessons are designed to provoke curiosity and develop geographical enquiry skills. Activities are hands-on and relevant, ensuring meaningful learning experiences.
- Geographical Enquiry:Pupils engage in various geographical enquiry activities, focusing on the acquisition and application of key subject knowledge, concepts, and vocabulary.
- Local Geography:We utilize our local geography, including the coast landscape and beach at Blackpool and the nearby river, to enhance learning through real-world geographical study.
- Inclusivity:All children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, have access to a broad, rich, and deep curriculum.
Our goal is to provide a geography education that enables each child to reach their full potential, fostering skills that are integral to their education and future roles as informed and active citizens. We aim to inspire active geographical thinkers who can understand and engage with the world around them.
