Music and Musical Theatre at Singleton Church of England School

At Singleton CE Primary School, our music curriculum is designed to be ambitious and enriching, providing all pupils with the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life. We aim to inspire creativity and self-expression, encouraging our children on their musical journeys and providing opportunities to connect with others. Our goal is to foster a lifelong love of music by exposing our children to diverse musical experiences and igniting their passion for music. Through listening and responding to different musical styles, finding their voices as singers, performers, and composers, our students become confident, reflective musicians. Our teaching and learning experiences are supported by a music scheme called ‘Kapow’ and by a Musical Theatre enrichment offer.

Musical Theatre is a key component of our curriculum, helping children feel musical and develop a lifelong love of music. This program offers rich experiences within the musical theatre genre, enhanced by high-quality specialist provision, allowing us to go beyond the expected. Our Musical Theatre offer aims to provide opportunities for our children to develop their talents and interests within the genre, fostering creativity and self-expression.

Our Performing Arts platform addresses aspects of cultural capital, enabling children to develop creative passions through dance, drama, singing, and music. We provide tuition from industry experts who work alongside class teachers to enrich our students’ learning experiences. Performing Arts also support learners’ personal development, helping them realize their talents, develop character, and enhance their creative skills. This plays a significant role in promoting positive mental health and well-being, equipping children with vital tools for life.

With improved self-confidence and self-belief, children are empowered to master many more skills that will equip them for life, regardless of their career paths. Participating in performing arts fosters confidence, self-belief, aspiration, teamwork, and communication skills, all essential for many professions.

Within our school, our Musical Theatre offer promotes:

  • Personal development, ensuring children are well-prepared to respect others and contribute to wider society.
  • High-quality provision for cultural, social, moral, and spiritual development.
  • Opportunities for pupils to understand how to be responsible, respectful, active citizens.
  • Extensive personal development, providing access to wide, rich experiences.
  • Opportunities for pupils to develop their talents and interests within the musical theatre genre.

All children are encouraged to learn to play musical instruments, from standard classroom instruments like recorders to individual lessons with visiting peripatetic staff.
