Science at Singleton Church of England School

At Singleton Church of England School, we believe in providing every child with opportunities to develop socially, emotionally, academically, and physically to achieve the highest possible standards. Our mission, “Passion for learning, Passion for life,” reflects our commitment to inspiring greatness, ambition, and achievement in all our students.

Our Science Curriculum:

  1. Foundation Stage (EYFS):Children develop an increased knowledge and sense of the physical world, their community, and the wider world. They learn to respect and celebrate similarities and differences, including religious and cultural diversity.
  2. Years 1-6:We use the Rising Stars ‘Switched on Science’ scheme to support teacher workload and work-life balance. This comprehensive curriculum is ambitious and designed for all pupils, covering Biology, Chemistry, and Physics with six units per year group. It aligns with the National Curriculum and Ofsted Education Inspection Framework.

Key Features:

  • Engaging Lessons: Our science lessons are designed to provoke curiosity and develop observational, questioning, and reasoning skills. Activities are hands-on and relevant, ensuring meaningful learning experiences.
  • Scientific Enquiry: Pupils engage in various science enquiry activities, including observation over time, fair tests, classification, research, and pattern-seeking.
  • Outdoor Learning: We utilize our wooded area, forest school, and surrounding countryside to enhance learning through outdoor scientific study.
  • Inclusivity: All children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, have access to a broad, rich, and deep curriculum.

Our goal is to provide a science education that enables each child to reach their full potential, fostering skills that are integral to their education and future careers. We aim to inspire active scientific thinkers who can formulate hypotheses, solve problems, and make informed decisions.
